Winona-Ryder
Winona Laura Horowitz, professionally referred to as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named their daughter after her hometown. Michel Horowitz' father was an editor and writer along with Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder's dad was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress also has a half-sister, Sunyata Jubal. Her older brother is Uria. Ryder's family relocated to Mendocino County to California when she was seven. In Mendocino County, they did not have electricity. Ryder was a prolific reader due to the lack of television. Ryder began taking acting lessons at the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 aged twelve years old. In 1986, she got her first big-screen role in the film Lucas at just 15 years old. Ryder was bullied at her high school. Her thought was that by becoming an actor, her bullying would be changed. Sadly, this didn't occur. She continued to pursue her dreams. Beetlejuice, a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first big breakthrough. Ryder had a successful role in several films. In 1993, Ryder was nominated two times for the Academy Awards.
